Prof. Mag. Art Elke Jarosch (1940–1993)

was born in Berlin in 1940 and died in Unterwaltersdorf, Austria, in 1993. She studied stage design at the University of Applied Arts Vienna and completed her teacher training there. She then worked as an assistant to Prof. Gerhard Obsieger, later becoming an assistant and professor in the fashion department with Prof. Sepp Moosmann.

Elke Jarosch exhibited her work in several shows in Vienna, including Galerie Wolfrum (March 1973) and Palais Kinsky (September 1976). In addition to her independent artistic practice, she created commercial works such as illustrations for the book Die Hunde von Benevento by Traudi Reich and the Piatnik picture lotto game “Wörterzauber.”

Her other works included murals at the Reitclub Schloss Ebreichsdorf at Schafflerhof, various graphic designs for invitations and special occasions such as weddings, birthdays, and baptisms, as well as restorations, for example of a wayside shrine in Ebreichsdorf with a rose bush and the shroud of Jesus on the cross. She also completed commissioned works, including horse portraits and other pieces, which may be added as more information becomes available.

Her work combines academic training, stage and fashion design, illustrative and graphic projects, and independent artistic creation. The works shown here are preserved as part of the family archive.
